REHEARSALS

Tuesday 15th March – Lesson One

We started off the term by meeting the TTA team that we’ll be working in collaboration to bring this play.
  • We performed a read through of the script
  • ·  We formed still images of our family/associate groups in terms of status within said groups. (We talked about the context of these relationships and why certain characters hold status and why others don’t)
  • ·      Jack then began directing the play working chronologically from scene one. After marking the play and directing it he then made the actors run the scene without the lines and instead made them say the general gist of the lines drawing out the comedy and making the story/plot more relatable/understandable.
We talked about the importance of feeling the lines and understanding and intentions of them rather than the literal meaning.

Wednesday 16th March - Lesson Two

1.     Warm up/exercise (group bonding/chemistry building/physical warm up)
  •       Receiving/throwing a ball between cast members.
  •      We then carried on the exercise, repeating the same order but after the third time round we became mobile.
  •      As a final exercise we played a game where we would walk around then be told to close our eyes and point at a certain cast member.

The first part of the warm up got me physically engaged whilst the second activity made me poised and got me focused after our break.

2.     We then carried on devising using the improvised lines method.

Whilst sitting at the sides occasionally watching my peers, I used my time by going over my script, engaging with my lines and having a look over some of the blog tasks.

Tuesday 22nd March - Lesson Three

We were introduced to the work done by the set designers in the form of a model. They explained that there would be a number of places to hide, balconies, palm trees fountains etc.

We then saw sketches of our costumes and got our first ideas of what we would look like in the final show.

After the TTA presentation we resumed blockings/rehearsals as usual.

Towards the end the lesson we all participated in a short improvisation exercise as Leonato conversating with the soldiers (Courtney, Toby and Michael)

securing the party so that Leonato's lavish parties/social events are secured safe (security briefing)

This exercise really helped get my character off the ground and work at building depth and truth. My accent improved as it went on and I began to experiment with my physicality. I developed a hunched a posture which admittedly was forced and probably over exaggerated at first but became more natural and truthful as the scene went on.

Wednesday 23rd March - Lesson 4

We continued blocking the show whilst the 2nd half cast members did blog work/character work.

Tuesday 5th April - Lesson 5

We carried out an exercise that consisted of us passing individual noises (accompanied by a gesture) across a circle. Getting bigger and smaller with a single gesture. We then continued blocking.

Wednesday 6th April - Lesson 6
Continued blocking to the end of the play (costume fitting)

Tuesday 12th April - Lesson 7
We performed our improv scenes to the rest of the cast and dissected/discussed them (on character blog)

We then began to run through the play sorting out having improved our characters (added depth through exploration) sorting out exits entrances and intentions as we proceed.

Wednesday  13th April - Lesson 8

We carried on the run through into the second half
